Capital Markets

KKR Capital Markets (KCM) supports our firm, portfolio companies, and clients by providing tailored capital markets advice and developing and implementing both traditional and nontraditional capital solutions for investments and companies seeking financing. We leverage the intellectual capital, industry expertise, and our global network to deliver the full capabilities of our firm.

Our clients include multi-national corporations, public and private companies, and financial sponsors. KKR Capital Markets is also an important resource to our private equity business and assists our portfolio companies with financing and capital structure improvement.

We provide our capital markets clients with differentiated access to capital through our distribution platform. We focus on the most active mutual funds, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and hedge funds globally. Close interaction and coordination with these investors provides KCM with enhanced market intelligence and advice, structuring, and execution.

As of September 30, 2014, KKR Capital Markets has a platform of approximately 40 investment professionals globally across debt and equity financing. We focus on providing a full array of capital markets solutions to address a client’s complex needs, this includes Merchant Capital Solutions (MCS) which provides principal and/or capital markets solutions to middle-market focused clients.

We believe KKR’s Credit platform has a combination of characteristics that allows us to offer clients a diverse range of investment solutions and to deliver strong investment performance. These key differentiating factors are:

- Global Presence: With a team of approximately 85 investment professionals in New York, San Francisco, London, Dublin, Singapore, and Sydney, as of September 30, 2014, the KKR Credit team has a global reach with a local presence. This allows our investment professionals to obtain deep insight into companies, management teams, and other stakeholders in our portfolio companies and markets.

- Depth of Analysis: Our investment teams are organized into industry groups. Our professionals, who are experts in their fields, utilize this structure to address the complexities of investing in global businesses. The teams can also leverage the intellectual capital of KKR’s entire network, where appropriate, to gain an edge in analyzing prospects and performance of corporate issuers.

- Differentiated Sourcing Model: KKR has a long track record of sourcing investment opportunities and deploying capital globally and across the capital structure. This experience has resulted in a deep and established network of relationships with banks, advisors, companies, sponsors and trading counterparties. It is this network that we believe gives us a competitive advantage of finding and identifying investments for our clients.
The KKR Credit platform is composed of the Marketable Securities Division and the Alternative Investments Division. This platform offers clients a broad range of active investment strategies globally, that represent a wide range of risk/return and liquidity profiles.

The scale of global infrastructure investment demand is enormous, and there is a growing need to replace and expand international infrastructure including all parts of the energy supply chain and a wide array of public services such as roads, railways, airports, and communications networks. Initiatives in these areas have become more difficult due to a reduction in traditional public funding and weakened economic conditions in many regions of the world. These resource issues have created a heightened need for experienced private capital.

We are committed to helping to meet this resource imbalance by investing in infrastructure assets on a global basis. Our goal is to achieve returns through the acquisition and operational improvement of infrastructure assets, which are important to the functioning of regional and local economies. We look to use these investments to generate current income and capital appreciation for investors in our funds.

Private Equity

Since KKR’s inception in 1976, we have developed into a global investment firm. We have expanded our capabilities from our core private equity franchise to complementary businesses that build on our knowledge, relationships, and strengths to provide enhanced value to our partners, including our investors, the companies in which we invest, and other key stakeholders.

At KKR we are particularly proud of our global, integrated approach. We operate as one firm, leveraging all of our businesses and partnering across the firm on behalf of our fund investors and the companies in which we invest. KKR’s Private Equity platform invests in and partners with industry-leading franchises and companies poised for significant improvement or growth that attract high-quality management teams. Moreover, we are disciplined investors, focusing on long-term business fundamentals.

We look to partner closely and cooperatively with management teams and entrepreneurs that have track records of success. We believe that the combination of our industry knowledge, investment experience, and operational expertise provides KKR with an edge in identifying and creating value in investment opportunities. Our strategy is not only to work as partners with the management of our portfolio companies, but also to assist in the operations of our businesses and leverage all of the resources of our global platform.

Real Estate

KKR’s Real Estate business’ mandate is to make control investments and transactions across the capital structure. Up until relatively recently, we pursued real estate opportunities through our private equity strategy. In 2011, we made a decision to build a high-quality, dedicated real estate investment team within our company, and as of September 30, 2014, our team consists of approximately 23 dedicated investment professionals who leverage resources throughout KKR.

Access to KKR Private Equity, KKR Credit, KKR Capital Markets, the KKR Global Institute, KKR Global Macro and Asset Allocation, and KKR Public Affairs, provides far greater resources to source, analyze and execute real estate transactions and address the needs of our clients.

KKR has built a leadership position in the energy market, and today our energy business spans the globe and covers the full energy supply chain.

We believe significant opportunities for investment exist in energy and natural resources. We have combined KKR’s sourcing capabilities, industry experience and financial strength with the expertise of professionals who possess the technical skill sets needed to achieve our goals in these areas.

Highly-experienced in working with complex and regulated businesses, we have been a key participant in the stakeholder engagement process. We regularly collaborate with policymakers and other key constituents to develop policies that will attract capital to the energy industry and help either build or rebuild energy infrastructure around the world.
